Carol Richwine, Project coordinator
In addition to coordinating the farm to school project, Carol is an agriculture teacher at Northern High School, teaching Horticulture I and II and Floral Design. She has been the Young Farmer and FFA Advisor for Gettysburg and Northern York School District for 21 years. She has worked in the PA Department of Agriculture's Plant Pathology Laboratory, and is owner of Richwine's Nature's Gifts, a floral design company. Carol graduated with a double major from Virginia Tech in 1988, with a BS in Secondary Education and a BS in Horticulture. She has a M.Ed. in Agricultural and Extension Education from Penn State University, 2007 and received a Career Certificate in Floral Design from Penn Foster College in 2014.
After building a strong foundation and first year for the Hub as it's first Food Hub Coordinator, Patrick moved on to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture in September of 2016 to become the Division Chief of Markets, and the first ever Farm to School Lead at the department. As a chef and business person, Patrick is very familiar with food systems. He has worked in management for six different restaurants, including one he started and owned. He is dedicated to helping bolster a regional food economy and help get more local farm food into schools.
Dr. Eric Eshbach
Dr. Eshbach, has been Superintendent of the Northern York County School District since August 1, 2012. An area native, he is a 1984 graduate of Dover Area High School. He graduated in 1988 with a B.S. in elementary education from Elizabethtown College, followed by an M.S. in education administration from Western Maryland College in 1992. In 2008, he achieved his doctorate in educational leadership from Duquesne University. He has been a champion and supporter of the farm to school program which has been essential to the successful formation of the Harvest Hub.
Scott has been the Director of Food Services at Northern York County School District since 2000. Northern was the Hub's first customer, and one of the top customers per student population, and Scott's advice and support has been a big help for the Hub to learn how to better serve school districts' needs.
Carla Snyder is an Agriculture Entrepreneurship & Marketing Educator with Penn State Extension in Adams County. She focuses on education surrounding marketing of agricultural products directly to the consumer. This includes consumer education, farmers’ market development and value added product development. Her areas of expertise include hard cider, agriculture international development, farmers' market development, social media, retail farm marketing, and value added product marketing and business development. She is a former farmers’ market manager, agricultural land conservationist, and home bakery owner.
Jason Young is the Business Manager at Northern York County School District. His financial oversight, as well as that of the business office staff at Northern, has been essential to the success of administering the grants that support the Hub. Jason was recently granted status as a Pennsylvania Registered School Business Administrator (PRSBA). The professional recognition is awarded to supervisory staff who meet the rigid personal, ethical and professional standards established by the program.
